Love is
“love is as strong as death,
It’s godly jealousy is as severe as Sheol;
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
The very flame of Yahweh” Song 8:6.
First, some observations.
Second a working definition of love.
Third, places in the love poem where the outward manifestation of that definition is seen.
Fourth, delight in love.
Fifth, What are some ways we could manifest love in our lives to the ones we love?
First, some observations
Love is strong to unite as death is strong to separate. True love is an unrelenting power that unites lovers. Love is a principle. Love is the sum of all good principles. Love comes from God. Jealousy in this text is a virtue. Jealousy here is a good emotion that comes from love and has an eye for the good and happiness of the object of it’s affection. Love is here compared to a flame. Love in this text flames up. The flaming up doesn’t last but love remains. Jealousy in the heart for the good and happiness of the beloved is a more vigorous emotion than affectionate love. It is inflamed when Naamah first fell in love with Solomon at his first anointing and many other places in the span of their courtship, engagement, marriage and beyond.
Second, a working definition of love
Love is an Almighty Power of God that when inflamed in the heart the lover never stops seeking the good and happiness of the object of their vehement affection.
Love is an Almighty Flame of God that does not relent in it’s desire for a closer more intimate relationship with the beloved that inclines the heart to choose the beloved more than anything else.
Love unites as death unrelentingly separates and it’s jealousy for the beloved is never satiated because it is an Almighty Flame of Yahweh.
Third, place in the Song of Songs where we see this holy principle at work in the heart of someone falling in love with a type of Christ Jesus?
“Draw me after you, let us hurry!” 1:4
“My beloved is mine! And I am his!” 2:16
“I am my beloveds! And his desire is for me!” 7:10
She says to him, “May we be one and act like it always” for love has an unrelenting power to unite us and harmonize our hearts so that we act as one, which is our good and happiness. my paraphrase of Song 8:6
You have to have some idea of what love is. Some working definition so that you can see it manifested in the heart of a believer falling in love with a type of Jesus Christ, Solomon.
Fifth, delight in love.
Imagine a woman falling in love. She wants him to take her away with him. She wants him to draw her closer to him. She trusts him. He is holy and set apart for God and His people. She wants to be near him. She wants him to draw her closer by loving her over and over again. Delight in her falling in love with him.
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his lips, for your love is better than wine.”
See how beautiful it is for her to rightly desire him.
“Draw me after you, let us hurry!”
Lastly, use of information or how can we show love to the ones we love?
Think of the ones you love? Friends, family, spouse, neighbors, enemies and most of all Jesus Christ. Think of them. What would make them happy? What could I do that would be for their good? What could I do or say for their emotional good and happiness? What could I do for their physical good? What could I do or say that would be for their spiritual good?
Think of it now!! What is the first thing you need to do in order to accomplish loving someone else? What is the first step you need to do? Do it!! Love them as soon as possible!
If you have realized that you have sinned and failed in your love to other’s then this conviction is a good thing. Confess your sin to God. Believe you deserve hell for your sin. Believe that Jesus felt the punishment for you so that you wouldn’t have to experience hell for He bore the full wrath of God on our behalf on the cross.

Confessing your sins is saying to God what the Bible says about your sin.
Repenting is a change of mind that manifests in life. Change your mind about you unloving actions. Change your mind about your unloving words! Then in life start acting like you truly love other’s. Do loving actions. Say loving words. Do things that would bring you closer to the one’s you love. Say things that would bring you closer to the ones you love?
Let me know, what have you done to show love to someone else lately?
What is the first step you plan on doing to show love to someone else?
