The Bride of Christ the Personification of Wisdom
It is sometimes said that the bride of Christ Solomon was the personification of wisdom. I have heard and read that but no one really explained. Let’s think about it.
When someone is the personification of love, we can see love in all they say and do.
When someone is said to be the personification of wisdom then we can see wisdom in all they say and do?
If you were to tell me that in the love poem that both Solomon and Naamah were the personification of love then I would gladly say, “yes”.
Now as far as I understand, love and wisdom are inseparable. You can’t do something truly wise in the eyes of God without love. And vice versa. You can’t do something loving without wisdom. For it is wise to do something loving and it is loving to do something wise.
And look at love in 1 Cor. 13:4-8 and see that every single characteristic or fruit of love is consistent with wisdom.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
Still, we can look at just wisdom to get a clearer idea of it by definition and then seeing her in action.

Defining wisdom
Wisdom consists in acting for a right end, observing all known circumstances for action and in willing and acting according to biblical reason, according to a right judgement of things. (Charnock. Existence and attributes of God. pg i507-8)
Her wisdom consisted in the knowledge of God, particularly the knowledge of the love of God by her experiencing what it felt like to be united to Christ Solomon. God is love. As she grew in the experience and knowledge of the love of God through Christ Solomon she gained a higher view of God who is love. She grew in her knowledge of the essence of God which is love.
Wisdom has a start. It starts with a feeling. A reverential awe of God is the beginning of wisdom. If you want to do or say something truly wise and virtuous then it has to start with a sincere rodential awe of God that compels you to be loving and wise.
Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
The wise mind is intent on glorifying God and love to others. This general motive of the wise heart is what guides it to be loving and wise.
Not only is wisdom bent on glorifying God, but a holy wisdom that ” comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17.
Now we look at each one of these characteristics of wisdom in the life of the bride of Christ Solomon in Solomon’s Song of Songs.
Pure. Therefore, anywhere in the Love Poem where we see the woman having pure thoughts then this personifies wisdom.
Peace-loving. Anywhere we see her keeping or making peace out of the love of her heart then she is personifying wisdom. I doubt anyone would deny that she does this throughout the whole poem from beginning to end.
Considerate. Anywhere we see her being equitable, just and keeping to the spirit of the law we see wisdom on display.
Submissive. Joyfully and lovingly obeying God and loving other’s is a sign that that person is wise.
Mercy. Mercy is holding back due punishment rather than acting according to strict justice only. This is wise and reflects the wisdom of God in salvation.
Good fruit.
Imparial.
Sincere. Sincerity and no hypocrisy.
As you go through Solomon’s Songs of Songs, where can we see her manifesting these various aspects of wisdom during her courtship, proposal, engagement, wedding day and married life?
Are you in a relationship with Jesus Christ?
Are you married?
Then do and say things that keep the peace.
Do and say things that make the two of you more happy, glad, and joyful as you delight in God.
Learn about God, grow in your knowledge of God. Learn more about each of His perfections as you prayerfully read Scripture in order to cultivate of holy fear and reverential awe of Him which is the beginning of living a wise life.
