Why so Beautiful?
Young Solomon fell in love with Naamah, the Ammonite, at his first anointing at Gihon.
The first day they met she spoke and acted like she had a flame above all others in her heart, with a zeal as intense as the fire of hell, with a strength to unite her heart with those of the same love.
The born-again Gentile slave girl fell in love with the young newly anointed co-regent king, Solomon, the promised Messiah of Israel.
Solomon gets anointed. They meet. She is totally on fire and expresses her feelings to him wi9th fervor and sincerity,
“Pleasing is the fragrance of your anointing oils, your name is like oil poured out.” Song 1:2
When she heard his name she got a similar feeling inside like that of being pleased when you smell perfume.
At the mention of the name Solomon, she got a good feeling inside and she delighted in it and him/Him.

The anointing signified that Solomon was holy and set apart by God for a specific purpose. Building the temple where God’s name would dwell. Solomon would bring peace between Jew and Gentile and unite them as one. Solomon would help bring peace between God and sinful man. Solomon would help bring peace to marriages. Solomon would bring peace to families. Peace to brother and sisters. Peace to neighbors. Solomon, oh that name, would help bring peace to the Gentiles by proclaiming His Name to them. And Naamah, the Ammonite was a Gentile who would later give birth to Rehoboam, who would succeed Solomon.
As promised in Samuel, Solomon would have God as his father. Solomon would be a son of God. Solomon would be a special beloved son of God for Solomon’s other name was Jedidiah, which means God’s beloved son. It was also promised that he would be king after David. Solomon was a promised Messiah.
I mean if you loved God and were single, could you think of any other better man to marry? He would be the Messiah who would bring peace to Israel, no more fighting during his reign here on earth. Only peace, perfect sweet unimaginable shalom.
Plus, the Messianic Psalm 72 would have been read at Solomon’s first anointing where they met. As the Scripture that David wrote was being read Naamah, the slave girl believed all that was said. Since she had a divine love in her heart (Song 8:6-7) she also had faith. For “love… believes…” 1 Cor. 13:4-8. Love in the heart promotes faith in God and what He has written. So that as she heard Psalm 72 which was all about what Christ Solomon would do during his reign. All kinds of amazing great stuff. No wonder when she heard the name Solomon she was greatly pleased and had a feeling better than wine in her heart for him.
“Long live king Solomon” 1 Kings 1, the people repeated with great joy!!
Every time she heard the name she was pleased. Happy, felt love, joy and peace. No more enmity between Jew and Gentile!!! And she was a Gentile, but now is a born-again Gentile (Gentiles were non-believers that were outside the covenant promises of Israel. They all worshipped false god’s and were considered unclean. Yet, this lovely young goat herder, Naamah, felt a true and holy love to Christ Solomon when she heard his name. And everything about Christ Solomon, made him the most desirable single man alive!!
The most beautiful thing that Solomon see’s when she said with love and zeal,
“Pleasing is the fragrance of your anointing oils, your name is like oil poured out”, Song 1:2, is her strong love to, great faith in and fervent zeal for him/Him.
She loves him and it is clearly apparent to God’s beloved son, Christ Solomon, that she has no ordinary common affection for him, but that a Divine love dwells in her heart for “love is… the very flame of the LORD.” Song 8:6
It is her having this flame of love from God, is something of God for “God is Love.”, and is returned to both God and Christ Solomon in her love filled words,
“Pleasing is the fragrance of your anointing oils, your name is like oil poured out.” Song 1:2
Then in Song 1:8 he says with great delight to her that it was her love, zeal and fearless heart that made her “the most beautiful of women.” And fearless like a “mare in battle” 1:8 for “love casts out fear of punishment (or harm)” 1 John 4:16ff.
Yes, it was her great degree of faith, great love, great humility, great joy, great peace, great zeal etc. that made her the most beautiful woman Solomon knew.
Notice me going back and forth from Song 1:2 and Song 8:6.
8:6 is a definition of love. She has love in her heart when she speaks. Each verse is a flame of love. The feeling and thoughts inside. The expression of them in her words and actions are in every verse of the love poem.
I would like to write more but I just lost the feeling. FYI, I usually only write when I sense love. This is a love poem that is best understood when feeling the truths in the text.
Love God. Love Jesus Christ. Confess your sins to God. Believe Jesus Christ suffered and died in your place. Read your Bible and obey it and you will be blessed.
