Have you ever had a time in your life when you new some things about your character wasn’t quite right or up to par?
Ever knew something wasn’t so beautiful about your character and then you changed it and noticed the change?
The bride didn’t has so lovely a character to start with but after her first date with the greatest type of Christ alive she realized that just being around Israel’s newly anointed Messiah, Solomon she was a better person.
He had influence on her character even after the first time they met.
She recognizes her inner beauty and says,
“I am a rose of Sharron, a lily of the valleys” Song 2:1

For her to recognize her beauty is an act of humility not pride.
Those who are holy will delight in holiness where ever they may find it. Wether it be seen in God, Christ, husband, other or ourselves.
Pride is having to high a view of yourself and giving yourself the credit.
Humility is having a right view of yourself and giving God the credit.
Humility is not have a low view of yourself, although most people have to high a view of their own strength to do good or to high a view of their righteousness, skills, knowledge, internal or external beauty.
Humility is having a right view of yourself in relation to God and others with a proper and holy heart response.
So if you have a right view of God you will have a high view of him an a low view of yourself. The puritans would say that you would have a right and high view of God and and right and mean view of yourself. Meaning a right view of God is that He is God and your King. A right view of ourselves in relation to Him is that we are His servants. We live for him. A proper response would be to obey his command to Love.
In the presence of the man of her dreams the bride to be recognizes that she is beautiful and holy on the inside like a rose is beautiful on the outside.
She delight is in the holiness of her own character, for she says “I am a rose”. She makes a statement of fact about herself to herself. She doesn’t say this to him, but in the middle of spending time with and having conversation with a great type of Christ she realizes something about herself and says it in the first person.
She speaks in the first person so we know what she is feeling when in the presence of the king.
She feels beautiful on the inside!
She feels lovely inside!
Not only does she feel lovely and holy on the inside, but he also recognizes her moral beauty and excellence as well in times of difficulty so he sweetly says to her
“Like a lily among thorns is my love among the maidens.” Song 2:2
He says this immediately after she has the feeling that she is beautiful on the inside and out like a rose or lily.
So not only does she know she is blossoming more and more lovely but he lets her know verbally that he also see’s and delights in her inner beauty, especially in the hard times. It easy to praise God and be holy during the good times, its the bad times where we get tested and tend to sin.
Her inner beauty arouses his love to her. Her inner beauty draws out his love to her. Her inner beauty draws him closer. Her inner beauty and his is the key to their growing love and sweeter relationship. Having a holy and pure character is absolutely key to having a marriage that is happy and will be happier thus pleasing God.
The main theme of the Song is Love.
Love draws the two together.
He loves her character.
She loves his character or “name” 1:2-3.
She also loves her inner beautiful character.
Its her inner beauty that draws him closer to her. I mean who would want to get closer to someone who is selfish, doubts God and is prideful? Selfishness has to do with the motives of our heart. Doubt and faith has to do with the faculties of our heart and pride has to do with the thoughts of our heart. Is your heart holy?
Maybe you remember times when you were stressed but now you trust God.
Maybe you remember certain times when you were tempted to sin but now you don’t.
Maybe you used to not pray and now you do.
Maybe you used to not witness and now you do.
Maybe you used to not tithe but now you do.
Maybe you used to have to high an opinion of yourself and now your view of yourself in relation to God is getting better.
Maybe your mind was filled with lies about God, Jesus, Salvation and life and now you believe truth. And the truth is setting you free from a sinful life. Here in this example your mind or soul is beautiful when you believe truth. This is loving God with all your mind. Love to God in the mind is an inner beauty. This inner beauty is a holiness of the heart which consists in love to God.
Those of us that have inner beauty ought to let our light shine so that people may see our good deeds and praise our father in heaven. Some of us have love or patience or goodness or faith or self control or truth in our mind or joy in the heart. These make us beautiful and God is the source of all natural and moral beauty, so give God the Glory right now for any beauty you may have.
Those of us that need to change and become beautiful on the inside need to confess our inner sins of pride, unbelief and selfishness. Trust that God sent His Son Jesus to pay for those sins. Believe we get to heaven not because of any good we have done put because Christ’s righteousness is credited to our account. Then repent and be humble, believe the truths of God in Scripture and love Him and other’s.
How do you know your greatest delight is in holiness? Holiness is living a life without sin. Now we aren’t perfect but perfection should be the direction if you love holiness. But if your not reading, memorizing and meditating on Scripture then your heart will not be becoming more and more beautiful. Jesus said “First clean” and make beautiful “the inside then the outside will be clean”. Clean up your mind, fill it with truth, believe the truth, trade wrong idea’s of God for right ideas of him.
The main application of reading the Song of Songs is to help you get a right idea of Love so where you have a wrong idea of love that is like having a dirty unholy thought. These thoughts should be changed for a right idea of love so that you can do it.
