Mountains = High points of happiness.

Calamus and cinnamon,
With all trees of frankincense,
Myrrh and aloes” Solomon’s Song of Songs 4:13-14.
Spices = Anything that your spouse thinks, feels, says or does that makes you feel good and happy.
Context.
The Bride and Bridegroom are now one and married. It’s the wedding night. She is half naked at a minimum. They are about to consummate the marriage. Make love. Manifest love.

Before they make love he lets her know what’s on his mind and heart. He wants the two of them to go together from one beautiful location to a high point of happiness that may or may not include greatest physical pleasure but is still enjoyable. To behold and feel and experience being at emotional highs. Sort of like building a memory of what it felt like to be at an emotional high as your beloved truly made love and didn’t use you. From there come down and go back up to another mountain. From there to go to another mountain.
Notice that mountains can have varying lengths of height, greater heights, and varying in their kind or nature. (Maybe other varieties but can’t think of them now.)
Mountains can have greater lengths of tops. Speaking of the duration of the emotional highpoint.
Mountains can have greater or lesser heights. Speaking of higher emotions and greater pleasures.
Mountains have differing names which give indication to the fact that the emotions could not only be high but varying in nature or aspect. Feeling happy could be one high emotion. Feeling loved could be one high emotion. Feeling at peace could be one high emotion. Feelings of joy or delight could be other emotional highs. Desire or longing could be another emotion that is subjective in intensity (I suppose this goes with some form of holy teasing). A sense of peace not enmity. Deeper trust is a feeling. Zeal for the good and happiness of the beloved is an emotion as well. Wow!! This is mind blowing!! What a most blessed feeling to feel loved at the most intimate level!!
How to you get to a mountain top?
I intentionally chose a picture of them fully clothed because both could be really happy beforehand as well. Emotional highs can happen just talking and being together, close physically and sweetly conversing.
Together. Variety of pleasures (spices). Highest quality. Various combinations. Using all the principles of touch.
Using variety (“all kinds” Song 4:10). Not only various good feelings but also various ways to get there.
Various combinations. Clearly there are many various combinations of pleasures. “Fragrant henna with spikenard,
14 Spikenard and saffron,” Song 4:13-14 For example. Pleasing kisses (henna) with pleasing caresses (spikenard). Pleasing caresses (spikenard) with sweet words (saffron). Call each one what you will. The text is not specific as to exactly what is what. You figure that out with your spouse. What is it that they really like or turns them on, makes them happy. What spice is their favorite? How long do they want that spice? Does that spice alone help them get happier? Do they need one spice with another? Do they want one spice but varying ways of using it?
Highest quality. The best way. This speaks of quality. Purest quality. “finest” Song 4:14. Highest quality. The best of the fruit and spice is used for each other’s happiness.
Intending to go together. “with me” Song 4:8. This seems most important because it is repeated 2x. Here is where making love in the bedroom gets better by both of them becoming less and less selfish..
Making sure she is okay with and ready for every variety or deeper level. “Do not arouse or awaken love until she desires it.” Song 2:7 and 3:5.
An idea is to get to the point where he knew lots of various things and ways that made her happy. And happier. And feeling better. To the point where he knows her. And he loves her, and his desire is for her. For her good and happiness. He gets to the point where he knows so much about what makes her happy. What to do before, during and after. How long. Various ways. How to go with her to various mountains.
To the point where they both find out what not only makes her happy but him as well. I say her happy. And I say they both find out what makes her happy because neither one of them should have a clear idea of this until the physical intimacy of marriage is experienced. Virgins have little idea of this. Solomon and his first wife were virgins. What makes both of them happy is figured out and then known, so that there will be a deeper level of trust. She could then say, “Do with me whatever makes you happy.” She would know that he would only do what makes her and him happy, for love is not selfish. Trust based on experience. But this has to be found out and discovered with new couples.
Better quality.
Purer motives.
Higher emotional highs.
Various mountain heights.
This goes on forever!!! I doubt there is a couple out there that has truly reached the point where they could not increase the quality of their love making, purity of their motives, heights of their feelings (given a healthy body and non-melancholic mind) and all the various mountains.
Variety. Where you do it. How often you do it. How you do it. How long you do it. Thinking of all the delights. Various orders. Various clothes. Various smells. Various sounds. Various words.
Variety also includes various in movement. The joints move in sagittal, frontal and transverse planes of motion. Meaning the pelvis can tilt up and down or arch back into flexion and extension, the pelvis can also move in the frontal plane like doing a hip hike, and then transverse planes of motion like rotation.
Various positions. Various positions with various speeds, lengths, pressures and angles. And this doesn’t even include Kegel squeezing (held, off and on, harder squeeze or softer). The possible variety is endless! Got to love this verse! Notice how spikenard is used.

Henna with spikenard then spikenard again with saffron. Spikenard is used twice yet with something else. What does your spouse like and can you add on to that something else? Keeping the one thing and adding another is how they reached one emotional high. Varying delights but the same context of making love and “drinking your fill” 5:1 of it from your spouse.
Choosing and doing one alone. Doing that one longer. Doing that one various ways. Doing that one in combination with another.

2 Tis the nature of love to increase in height, depth, length and breadth.
Height of feeling. Depth of intimacy. Length of enjoyment. Breadth and scope of variety.
“that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:18ff.
What hinders such love?
Sin “separates” Is. 59:2 yet love unties.
Hinderances to such growth of love are continuing in sin. Selfishness, pride, unbelieve in God. Quenching the Spirit hinders the love. Wrong ideas of God and Truth and Doctrine will also hinder loves power to grow and unite hearts. I suppose the list goes on and on but generally speaking if you have truly give your life to Jesus and are trusting Him for your salvation then your love will generally grow.
Jesus.
What are the things we feel, think, say and do that please Jesus?
Wouldn’t you like to be a garden of delights out of love to your Bridegroom who is worthy of it and who has died for our good and happiness?
God promises that His bride will be called His “delight” primarily due to her being holy. Isaiah 62:4 ” you will be called, “My delight is in her,” And your land, “Married”; For the Lord delights in you, And to Him your land will be married.
God’s delight in His Son, Jesus is the same delight He has in us due to our union with Jesus Christ! The same delight if you are saved and by faith have Christ’s righteousness credited to your account and are forgiven then you are infinitely lovely in Christ Jesus and are God’s delight.
“Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations.”
Feeling loved in Christ Jesus is an unspeakable feeling sometimes!!
