It happened upon a day.
When eyes a lighted on one of the most beautiful sites mine eyes have seen thus far. I saw the most beautiful rose. Yes a rose that stood out among the rest. One that caught my eye and I never turned away, it was the most delightful rose to behold, its loveliness was matchless, perfectly glorifying God. I am talking about a real rose. A rose that when beheld it would give you much more delight than beholding any other rose for the greater the beauty the greater the delight when beheld.

There was a rose that would grow in the fertile valley of Sharon in Israel. During the time of Solomon’s reign, Israel was flourishing, the land was flowing with milk and honey like never before. So also did the grapes grow large. Remember when the spies came back from the promised land, They brought back huge grapes. The land was very fertile, therefore a rose in the valley of Sharon would have be more beautiful than any other rose. The bride of Solomon, she is similar to the rose.
The bride recognizes her inner beauty and needed something to compare it to. She had known of her loveliness before in Song 1:5 and now she see’s her beauty, her inner holiness consisting in love to God, she feels this love to god, this love to God she has in her heart, the flame of the LORD Song 8:6 is a sweet flame of love, more delightful to experience than any other.
A physical rose that grows in a garden is beautiful. Suppose a rose could be more beautiful than any other. This is a rose from the most fertile valleys of all time. Most beautiful, yes and oh so beautiful. Yet there is only natural beauty of symmetry, proportion and harmony within itself and harmony with the whole garden of the universe. Yet no moral beauty.
By moral beauty I mean, holiness. Holiness is a moral beauty. Ps 27:4 A person is holy if they every day all the days all the time love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. To be holy is to have no mixture of evil. Pure. Holiness is beautiful to behold, my greatest delight is in it. The bride had an evil heart before but now she recognizes that her heart is different, it is holy, thoughts consistent with Scripture, emotions in line with theses thoughts, holy actions and words flow from a heart that loves God. She has a heart that loves God, she is holy within and knows it. The more renewed your mind the holier it is. Certainly lovely at every degree but more beautiful the more it is like Christ.
Interesting how I chose the title. The most beautiful rose adores a more beautiful rose. Seems to be a contradiction but to say the reality clearer didn’t sound so good of a title. so Yes I could have been less confusing and said “The most beautiful natural rose of Sharon beheld a more beautiful woman like itself but more delightful to behold in all her moral excellencies.” Swift, fearless, obedient. Swift for she says let us hurry 1:4, Fearless for she says “Do not stare at me” she did not fear punishment from Solomon. She was still sunburnt and looking like an an enemy to the kingdom of God and thus an enemy of Solomon. But the king of peace makes peace with his enemy bride by giving his life and all he has for her greatest happiness.
The believer is much more beautiful than a rose due to them being renewed in the image of God. Holiness of heart is renewed in the believer. This image of Christ upon the heart is much more beautiful than a rose, infinitely so.
What encouragement is here to renew our minds so that Christ can delight in us when He see’s greater holiness of heart.
Behold the glory of God in the face of Christ and your heart will be more and more beautiful.
When beauty delights in beauty
Emotions of joy and delight flood my heart
As I behold your beauty and can’t look away.
The thought of losing sight of you tears me apart,
Here my heart rests and here my heart will stay.
With doves eyes fixed upon the one my heart loves,
feeling of assurance, hope, joy, delight and love fill my breast.
Her eyes fixed on Christ and heart of faithfulness,
God of love and goodness, could I be more blessed.
