There is wisdom in every act of love.
You can’t have a truly loving action that is foolish and unwise at the same time.
A wise act is done with proper motives. For the glory of God. To please God. A wise act has a right ultimate end in mind as to the reason why they are doing whatever it is they are doing. A loving heart has a right ultimate end in mind. Hhhhhm, is that wisdom and love acting as one?
It would please God for me to show love to my spouse to strengthen the bond between us. To draw her closer. God would be glorified if we became more one and showing love to my spouse would manifest that oneness in the relationship.

Wisdom defined. The right use of knowledge for a proper end.
Primary and foundational knowledge that wisdom uses or is guided by is the knowledge of God. Whereby we get knowledge of ourselves as we see God as He is. Outflows a proper heart response. Humility. A lower view of ones selve in relation to God. Dark am I, yet lovely.
In love there is wisdom.
Solomon’s song of songs is a love poem in the section of the Bible that holds wisdom. Proverbs is wisdom. Ecclesiastes is wisdom. So also is there wisdom in all the loving acts of Solomon and his first wife, Naamah, in Solomon’s song of songs.
Naamah compare Solomon to a gazelle on mountain tops. It takes skill for a gazelle to go from one mountain to another. It takes skill for him to bridge the gap between him and the one he loves. There is wisdom in the flame of love in their hearts.
The wisdom of the bridegroom is seen as he draws her closer by his love. By one loving act after another.
1 He draws her closer by being desirable. Song 1:2-3
i. By having a love better than wine
ii. By having a holy, wise and loving character 1:14. Since young Solomon had a holy, wise and loving character, his love was able to cast out fear. She had nothing to fear. She would be loved, provided for, cherished, lead wisely etc. When she heard the name Solomon she had nothing to fear because his name was pleasing similar to the pleasure felt when smelling holy anointing oils.
Thinking of who she is and who he is and her relationship to him in God fills her heart with love, joy, peace and no fear of harm or punishment. She is fearless in her pursuit of a closer relationship with her soon to be bridegroom becasue of his beautiful moral character.
By having a praiseworthy love.
By adoring her beauties Song 1:9-10, 15
By outward expressions of innward affection. Making promises. 1:11
A loving spouse is valuable. He draws her and keeps her closer by being valuable like myrrh. 1:13
Food for thought
I suppose in all the above is wisdom and directions on how to woo a woman you have feelings for.
Later the bride reflects back to the times when they first met and fell in love and the proposal. She concludes that all he did was flawless and precious to her. Thus “his head was like pure gold.” Song 5:11 His leadership in the relationship was flawless and priceless to her because it was guided by love and wisdom.
Her full description of him surely implies that he is wise, loving, humble, majestic, good and supportive among other things.
“My beloved is dazzling and ruddy,
Lifted up as a banner among ten thousand.
11 His head is like gold, fine gold;
His locks are like clusters of dates
And black as a raven.
12 His eyes are like doves
Beside streams of water,
Washed in milk,
And sitting in their setting.
13 His cheeks are like a bed of spices,
Towers of sweet-scented herbs;
His lips are lilies
Dripping with liquid myrrh.
14 His hands are rods of gold
Set with beryl;
His abdomen is a plate of ivory
Inlaid with sapphires.
15 His legs are pillars of marble
Set on bases of fine gold;
His appearance is like Lebanon
Choice as the cedars.
16 His mouth is full of sweetness.
And he is wholly desirable.
This is my beloved and this is my friend,
O daughters of Jerusalem.
She proclaimed the glories of the 3rd Christ of Israel, Solomon, unmeasurably wise and loving.
He draws her closer by doing his part in the relationship. She says of him,
“Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
So is my beloved among the sons.
In his shade I had great desire and sat down,
And his fruit was sweet to my taste.” Song 2:3.
He wisely draws her closer by communicating to her in a way that makes her feel safe and able to share her deepest feelings.
“O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret place of the steep pathway,
Let me see your appearance,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your appearance is lovely.”
Do you think it would be wise to give all of yourself to the one you love. Love guided by wisdom enabled the two lovers to freely give themselves to each other. Once she realizes this she most happily proclaims.
“My beloved is mine, and I am his.” Solomon’s song of songs 2:16
The point of this blog post is to expound on the fact that there is wisdom in love. Love is an affection. Yet, not an affection that acts alone but rathere is guided by wisdom. That wisdom is not outside of love but rather wisdom is in love. Therefore every real and praiseworthy act of love is done with wisdom.
These verseses help us to see a wise man and woman doing wise and loving things in their courtship, proposal, engagement and marriage.
Jonathan Edwards quotes as it relates to wisdom within the trinity.
(All the Three are Persons for they all have understanding and will. There is understanding and will
in the Father, as the Son and the Holy Ghost are in Him and proceed from Him. There is
understanding and will in the Son, as He is understanding and as the Holy Ghost is in Him and
proceeds from Him. There is understanding and will in the Holy Ghost as He is the Divine will and
as the Son is in Him.
Nor is it to be looked upon as a strange and unreasonable figment that the Persons should be said to
have an understanding or love by another person’s being in them, for we have Scripture ground to
conclude so concerning the Father’s having wisdom and understanding or reason that it is by the
Son’s being in Him; because we are there informed that He is the wisdom and reason and truth of
God, and hereby God is wise by His own wisdom being in Him. Understanding and wisdom is in the
Father as the Son is in Him and proceeds from Him. Understanding is in the Holy Ghost because the
Son is in Him, not as proceeding from Him but as flowing out in Him.
The honor of the Father is that He is the fountain of the Deity as He from Whom proceed both the
Divine wisdom and also excellency and happiness. The honor of the Son is equal for He is Himself
the Divine wisdom and is He from Whom proceeds the Divine excellency and happiness, and the
honor of the Holy Ghost is equal for He is the beauty and happiness of both the other Persons.
The love of God as it flows forth ad extra is wholly determined and directed by Divine wisdom, so
that those only are the objects of it that Divine wisdom chooses, so that the creation of the world is
to gratify Divine love as that is exercised by Divine wisdom. But Christ is Divine wisdom so that the
world is made to gratify Divine love as exercised by Christ or to gratify the love that is in Christ’s
heart, or to provide a spouse for Christ. Those creatures which wisdom chooses for the object of
Divine love as Christ’s elect spouse and especially those elect creatures that wisdom chiefly pitches
upon and makes the end of the rest of creatures.
