Life Metaphor Bible Love

Song of Songs 4:15

“A garden fountain, a well of living water, streams flowing from Lebanon.” Song 4:15.

What do we mean when we say a flower has life?

“I will be like the dew to Israel; he shall blossom like the lily and lengthen his roots like Lebanon.” – Hosea 14:5

What would we mean if we said that an embryo had life?

What would we mean if we said that a person had life?

What would we mean if we said that a person united to Jesus Christ had life?

What do these kinds of life have in common?

1 In all of them something is growing or flourishing.

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:10-11

2 There is something powerful making her enflamed with love that affects his heart ravishing and encouraging it! 4:9 Something or someone has to be a source of the power. There is power and there is a source.

—–

Because of whom she is and what she does and says is life giving similar to how water gives life to the body.

Hydration brings life to the body and dehydration brings about the death of the body.

What does it mean that she is a life giving spring of water.

Her feelings for him and the way she expresses them to him.

Making herself physically and morally beautiful for him, glancing his way when he calls, saying sweet and delightful things to him and making him happy every which way she knows is like him getting life from her. Song 4:9.

He feels alive being loved by her!

As water nourishes our bodies so also did her love to him give his body and soul life!

The things she felt, said and did that brought them closer, they all gave him life!

When her heart flamed up with love and she expressed her feelings to him she was like a living spring making him feel alive! Sensing life

Wouldn’t you like someone to compare you to something that gives life?

What would you have to feel, say and do in order for someone to give you this compliment of comparing you to a life giving spring?

What were some of the things she did in their courtship that made him feel alive? Expresssions of her love to him…

1 In her love to and delight in him when she told him that his “name was like perfume poured fourth.” 1:3 He had the “Sweetest name“.

2 Her fearlessness. She was like a “fearless mare in battle.” Which came from the love in her heart, her true moral beauty that was most attractive to him.

3 Her high view of his love is worthy of more praise than wine! And many more things she did gave him the feeling of being alive!

What would you have to feel, say and do in order for Jesus Christ, your Heavenly Bridegroom to give you a compliment comparing you to a life giving spring?

Life

Power/energy.

A feeling is felt for feeling alive has a feeling. Feels good. Feels uppity up. Invigorating.

Life as opposite of death. In heaven, for those whom Jesus Christ paid the penalty for their sins, there will be life and not death.

Rev. 21:4

“and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain. The first things passed away.”

Thinking opposite of death then life would feel like having no regrets. No mourning. No mourning over sin and death.

Having someone make you feel alive is not like crying. Here crying is a way of expressing our inner feelings of sadness, sorrow, pain, regrets

Kinds of emotional crying are loss (e.g. when a relationship ends or a loved one dies), helplessness, physical pain and discomfort.

Crying of pain as it feels like Jesus is missing or gone like He has Spiritually left you. The sensing of His Spirit in good and delightful ways is gone from the heart.

Similar to how David lost the good feeling of joy that the Spirit of God gave him when he thought of God saving him. As David stayed in unconfessed sin God took away David’s joy. Leaving only guilt and thoughts of his sins being ever in his mind. Sensing more of God’s wrath and loving discipline rather than the joy that comes with continued obedience and a sense of His love. Psalm 51.

Though we can’t truly make God or Jesus feel more alive. Yet our feeling alive is a participation of God glorifying Himself through our union and communion with Jesus Christ. God is the source of life, yeah life itself. His Spirit, God is Spirit. The Third Person of the Trinity is life!

The Spirit of God “gives life” John 6:63, Rom. 8:2

No sorrow for Israel during the 1,000 year reign of Jesus. Here the opposite of feeling sorrow is like having a hydrated soul.

Jeremiah 31:12Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

Other verses

Psalm 36:9, which states, “For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.”

Proverbs 5:15-18
“Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.”

Isaiah 61:10-11
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations

Isaiah 58:11
And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

John 4:13-14, Jesus tells her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

Are you Lovesick then do your acts of love, humbly in Christ Jesus not trying to earn his love and favor for love is priceless.

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” – Psalm 42:1

Going doing good works in hopes that Jesus will come nearer. Feeling him gone and trying to earn his favor. Or feeling Him gone and loving for His pleasure and humbly doing so. Yet He will say Well done good and faithful servant.

Song of Solomon 6:11
I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley, and to see whether the vine flourished, and the pomegranates budded.”
