Analogies to The Mystical Union seen in the Love Song

The Goal of this post is to come up with a process by which we can rightly see an analogy in Solomon’s Song of Songs.

Go here for the live version on youtube of this blog go here. Analogies in the song.

A clear General analogy is that of love. Both loved their bride, spouse, wife etc. What is the similarity? Both loved their partner. The idea behind their love is the idea of giving oneself to the other. “as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her.” Eph. 5, Gal. 2:10. With Song 2:16 “My beloved is mine and I am his

Solomon love his wife with the same love but not to the same degree.

What did they share in common? The same love. For love is of God, is something of Him and is returned to Him.

How is the love of God in the Son returned to the Father? In obeying the command to die for His Bride!

There are many things that are similar about Solomon’s union with his bride and Jesus Christ’s union with His Bride (every believer of all time) (the ones the Father gave the Son before the world began to die in her place only).

Definition of an Analogy.

a comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification.

a correspondence or partial similarity.

a thing which is comparable to something else in significant respects.

Logic. a process of arguing from similarity in known respects to similarity in other respects.

1 We will see a truth in the text. As it relates to Solomon and his bride. Known in the text. Exposition. 2 From another text in the Bible we see in known respects a similarity as it relates to Jesus Christ and His Bride (all believers of all time). 3 See the similarity 4 Benefits (Fixed idea in the mind, clear and not just a shadowy idea.)

The young born again maiden see’s the coming Messiah of Israel being anointed and falls in love with a flame above all other in her heart. What is she feeling? Love. How is that feeling toward the Messiah expressed? Saying to herself but speaking of him, she says,

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth

for your love is more better than wine.

(Then he gets close enough for her to smell him and she says to him,)

3Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;

your name is like perfume poured out.

No wonder the young women love you!

4Take me away with you—let us hurry!

Let the king bring me into his chambers.” Solomon’s song of songs 1:2-4

First analogy. Both brides desire to be shown love.

1 Truth. Does the bride of Jesus Christ desire physical kisses from His lips? Im thinking, though I don’t know all the Scriptures, I can’t think of a time when a believer want a physical kiss from Jesus?

General and broad analogies. The Bride desires to be shown love and affection over and over again by Solomon, a Messiah, king, shepherd, brother and hopefully future bridegroom.

2 Text for believers or Bride. The Bride of the Son of God or Psalmist desires to be shown God’s lovingkindnesses (plural) by way of receiving salvation. Psalm 119:41 41May Your lovingkindnesses also come to me, O LORD

88In your unfailing love preserve my life, that I may obey the statutes of your mouth.”

3 What is similar? Both desire to be shown love over and over again. Where in the Bible is a believer desiring to be shown love from God/Jesus over and over again?

The Bride of the Son of God or Psalmist desires to be shown God’s lovingkindnesses.

4 Benefits of this analogy between a woman desiring affection from a man over and over again. And the Bride of the Son of God desiring Him to show lovingkindness over and over again. The benefit is that we get a better idea of love by it! True love is mutual! True love desires reciprocation.

Experiencing God’s Love is better than anything else life can offer apart from God. Both the Psalmist 63:3 and the bride to be both knew what was better in life. In the Love Song. In the Psalmists life.

In the Song. Show me actions of love over and over again. Why? Due to the superlative nature of love, it is better. Better than wine.
