we still see a king and a slave in love to they get so close nothing can separate them.
To me it seems to know for sure when Solomon slept with someone other than the woman is the Song isn’t relevant to the main ultimate end for which Solomon wrote the Love Poem.
The Songs main teaching stays the same either way.
Solomon inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote Solomon’s Song of Songs. It is a love poem that honors God. In the highest sense the reason Solomon wrote is was so that God would be glorified. In a lesser sense his ultimate intention was to help us get a right idea of love. What it is and does. Its nature and effects. Its superlative characteristics.
No doubt about it that if you take only whats written in the Song by itself you have a flawless shepherd king who is roused by a born again Gentile, they have sweet fellowship, get engaged, married and get to the point where their hearts are sealed and she is sealed upon his arm due to the superlative characteristics of love.
Doctrine of what love is stays the same.
The doctrine in the Song is in 8:6-7 “Love is strong as death.” This is true whether or not Solomon was polygamous before, during or after his marriage to the woman in the Song.
The truth as to what love in their hearts did stays the same.
We ought not let our own bias of thinking that the goal of Solomon or the Holy Spirit to inspire a love poem that has the whole life of Solomon in it.
And who is to say that its not impossible to have your heart fixed on your only wife only to have it temporarily drawn away to other’s then fixed again on her even all the more. Solomon was repentant at the end of his life as some think due to Ecclesiastes. And who says she couldn’t forgive him. Lots of possibilities and I wont belabor a point. Expect that you can’t read Solomon later life into his early life.
It’s important to a right understanding of the poem to read it as is and not to read something into it. If the Song represents the king Solomon as an adulterer that gets super close to one woman then that’s what’s there but you wont get it from the text. If the Song represents king Solomon as having a headship as pure gold who’s love was more delightful than wine and altogether desirable then he was.
How can you definitively put a date on when Solomon slept with someone other than the woman in the Song? Did he sleep with another woman before his first anointing where Solomon and the woman in the Song first fell in love? Did you sleep with another woman during the time of his marriage to the woman in the Song? Did he sleep with other women after the death of Naahmah?
Did Solomon have multiple wifes and concubines and still “obey the commandments of God”
David kept the commandments of God and slept with Bathsheba! Though his adultery was sinful and David severely disciplined for it. And 1 Kings 11:4 says that David’s heart was “fully” devoted to the LORD. or Whole heartedly. All his mind, soul, and strength. Yet at the same time such a man can temporarily stray and commit both adultery and murder.
Apparently temporal idolatry is not part of being fully devoted to God and temporal adultery and murder don’t disqualify you from being wholeheartedly devoted to God.
