Nice Things to say to your wife from Solomon’s Song of Songs

If you want to say nice and sweet things to your wife, then its a good idea to use superlatives, like Solomon does in Solomon's song of Songs.

Line up 10,000 good husbands and the husband in Solomon’s Song of Songs stood above them all. He was “better than all the other’s”. The main reason is because he had a true, powerful, unquenchable love in his heart for his wife.

The main reason that he was a beloved above all other beloved was because God gave him a heart influenced by His Spirit more than any others. He was more Spirit filled, therefore his love to his wife was greater than any other.

That love he had to his wife manifested itself in the things he said to her. He said the sweetest things therefore she says of him that “his mouth was sweetness itself.” Song 5:16

Here is a list of the sweet things Solomon said. Some may seem odd but in context 3,000 years ago in Jerusalem they were the sweetest things.

The very first thing he says is “If you do not know, most beautiful of women.” He calls her the most beautiful woman because she is, but also love excludes all other’s and the woman you truly love is the most beautiful one to you and in Christ.

Notice that he used a superlative word to describe her beauty. “Most beautiful among women.”

Use superlatives

Use superlative words, endings, comparisons and superlative structuring of the compliment, praise or adoration of her inner or outer beauties.

Superlative words can either be used in a positive or negative sense.

Positive superlative words

Most

Best

Most beautiful, most lovely, most captivating eyes. Best lips, best eyes, best character, best…

“Most”

Most beautiful among women.” Solomon’s Song of Songs 1:8

See how he uses the word “most” to describe her beauty in comparison to the other women. God made women beautiful, so say something nice to her as you adore her beauty with the most sincere smile on your face. In the comparison the word “most” must be used to help distinguish her beauty as being more than the others.

Negative superlative words.

“Least”

Use words like “least” and …. Superlative comparisons can also be said in a negative sense. Like the world “least”. Least angry. Least impatient. Least prideful. Least arrogant. Least greedy. Least… Notice least is to describe negative characters that she doesn’t have but is a sweet thing to say using a superlative word in the negative sense.

I don’t think Solomon uses the word least but it could be sweet to say along with a bad attribute that is least in your woman compared to others. I suppose timing and sincerity are really important in this one.

Superlative endings

“…est”

Other words that express the idea of greater than usually have an “…est” after it. Greatest, nicest, loveliest, prettiest etc. Words that express her inner beauty can also have “…est” at the end of them like kindest, wisest, boldest, holiest, funniest…

Superlative Comparisons

Solomon uses superlative phrases in his comparisons. Using superlative words is good but also the idea is that you are sincerely setting her higher, better or greater than something or someone else.

Phrases that help in making a superlative comparison are “More than” 1:4 “among”1:9 “better than wine”1:2 or (your like this, but more so) and probably some more that I’m not thinking of right now.

Like when looking at a rose and seeing its beauty, you then you at your wife and say, “Its beautiful isn’t it.” She says “Yes”. Then you sincerely and sweetly say with a genuine smile on your face, “But it’s no where near as beautiful as you.”

“More than”

more than” Song 1:4 So you could say

I rejoice and delight in you, I will praise your love more than wine.

Of course you may have to explain yourself. Wine makes you happy yet her loving you makes you happier, therefore you rejoice and delight in her and promise to praise her acts of love more than you do anything else.

Notice how Solomon wisely uses words to express how the love in his heart toward her set her above the other women by using the word “among” in the comparison compliment.

Negative superlative words.

God made women beautiful. So compliment whatever gives you delight when you behold her various beauties.

Use superlative structuring

Far – further – furthest (meaning additional, not distance)

Good – better – best

Little – less – least

Many – more – most

Let me give it a try. To the one I love. “As far as helpers go. My hands are good to help me to glorify God and my body as a whole works better to please God. But you are the best for without you I can do nothing.”

“New believers tend to have many flaws, then you have others that have less, but you, you my love have the least.” Okay, don’t quote me here, but Im trying and failing here to come up with something really sweet with a progression from good to best and little to least. Im not Solomon, so maybe follow him and not me. lol.

Other notes

1 Don’t go overboard but be sincere. Don’t be a liar be sincere, if you truly love her what’s in your heart will be good not evil. Don’t flatter but be sincere.

2 Sometimes flat out honesty is good. When you are looking at her beauty and smiling and trying to think of something to say and

She says, “what are you thinking.” and you say the truth. “I am looking at you and your so beautiful I was trying to think of something nice to say but nothing was coming to me.” This can be sweet as well.

3 This is me trying to think of how much I value Jesus and wanting to express my love in words of comparison. If each sand of the seashore were a different thought Ive had of you then every one of them would be a priceless jewel. “Let me try to express how much you mean to me. If every sand of the sea shore were a diamond that would be nothing but a small fraction of how precious you are to me.” Love is priceless, therefore you loving spouse is of an infinite value.
What words you you say that would express how much you value your spouse.
