What does it feel like to be loved by the greatest type of Christ alive? The bride in the Love Song knew what it was like to be loved by the greatest type of Christ alive! He was the “chief beloved and friend above all other’s” Song 5:9-10 and his “loves were more delightful than wine.” YLT
Love from the greatest type of Christ feels “more delightful than wine.” This is the testimony of the bride in the Song of Songs.
Delight is not a thought but a feeling based on the objective reality of the experience. She did know who loved her for this was in her mind. She knew she was being loved by a great Messiah a great king of peace with unmeasurable wisdom. These thoughts were in her head and in her heart at the seat of her emotions she felt delight in the thoughts she had of her king with a good name like perfume poured out.
Her husband loved her like a wise king to a servant. Like a friend. Like a good shepherd to his sheep. Like the most delightful apple tree to a hungry soul. Like the sweetest suitor wooing her closer. His “loves were more delightful than wine”
We watch love stories and read books about people who loved each other. We feel what they feel. We empathize with them. We understand because we have been there to some degree or another. We know what it feels like to love and be loved. Yet what would it feel like to be loved by the greatest lover alive!
It feels more delightful!
The bride of the son of God/Son of God wanted to experience God’s love through the greatest type of Christ alive! She experienced it and wanted more and more of it because of the superlative delightfulness of it!! Listen to her wanting more of his love and why!
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his lips for his loves are more delightful than wine.”
What made his love more delightful?
She has just experienced love from the greatest king alive!
She was an enemy slave girl and he is the king of peace. He was a king gifted with unmeasurable wisdom and was promised to have “no equal during his time period and nor will there ever be.” 1 Kings 3:12
He was also promised to have “no equal among kings in regards to wealth and honor.” This honor was due his name
God enabled Solomon to glorify Himself and be the greatest type of Christ alive, specifically in regards to his role as king, by giving him unmeasurable wisdom and discernment. See the glory of God reflected in the kingship of Solomon and get an idea of the Glory of God in the face of Christ.
The wisdom of God is seen in his Leadership.
The love to God and His people is seen in his desire for that wisdom rather than riches. Herein Solomon “loved God” 1 Kings 3:3
His love as a king was more delightful than wine because
1 It was guided by unmeasurable wisdom therefore his “head was pure gold”
2 Solomon denied himself riches over wisdom. As a very young king he was not selfish. As a child Solomon asked for wisdom rather than riches.
3 It was a monarchy like never before ruled by the Word of God or as David said it, the “Law of Moses” 1 Kings 2:3. A king that ruled using the Law of Moses would have a love more delightful than wine.
4 He was superlative in the way in which he would be able to be at peace with his enemies by telling them the promises of the coming Messiah and their belief in and love to him/Him. The type of Christ was a king of peace. He made peace, true peace with his enemies. His enemies became his friends due to their common faith in the coming Messiah and love to him/Him. I say him/Him because they may not have known wether or not the coming Messiah would be God in flesh. Any spark of true faith or love would be a manifestation of their union and communion with the coming Christ. Any true love to and delight in his love would prove a love to and delight in God.
Can you imagine how happy you would feel to be living in the promised land with a king who was gifted with unmeasurable wisdom and he loved you?!!
When he ruled would it be a great delight to you if he used the Word of God as his authority? Would you be delighted to experience the love of a king who used the Scriptures as his guide while the government of the nations was on his shoulders. It would be a time of love and peace with God and man, beyond understanding. The type of government during Solomon’s reign would be understood as a “Theocratic Monarchy”.
Theo meaning God. Monarchy meaning king. One king with God as the Ultimate Authority in the kingdom.
The child, king of peace, was promised to build the Temple and God would come down and dwell on earth in the Temple and peace and good will is promised to go out to both Jew and the enemy Gentile Nations.
The Gentiles where told the story of Adam and Eve and if they believed God, then they were credited righteousness and given a new heart for the old heart for the old heart was only evil all the time.
“and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.” Gen. 6:5
Somehow an enemy Gentile would hear of God, his promises and the coming king and would believe them and therefore could be accepted into the fellowship of true Jews.
The enemy Gentile would love God and since there was a spark of love to God in the heart then they would not have every inclination or thought, only evil all the time. The enemy Gentile would get a new heart one with “love” to God and man in it. That love is form God, is God and is reciprocated back to Him.
Love is written on the heart to some degree. In the mind and at the seat of the emotions. Love is there to some degree not the word physically written there. Love is known in the mind and delighted in with the seat of the emotions in the soul.
Love is the souls relish of the supreme excellency of the Divine Nature than when tasted inclines the heart toward God in every way.
Whereas the non believers heart and inclinations are only evil thus not love to God and only an evil hatred remains.
Love is the souls relish of the holiness of God which is the supreme excellency. The soul has an ability to taste. A faculty of the soul is an ability to taste, feel or sense. The holiness of God when clearly seen and delightfully tasted will incline the heart or inclinations and thoughts toward God, love and holiness. That taste that the seat of the soul has in God is what we call delight. It is delightful to behold the holiness of God in a type of Christ and more delightful and sweeter to behold it in Christ alone!
Delight or happiness the feeling is the same but the object of our delight and happy can change and therefore be a sinful delight or a holy one. To delight in the Love of God is a holy delight. If you are a bride and delight in the love of your husband then you delight in God for God is love and any manifestation of that love should be delighted in as well.
Solomon’s Song of Songs is written from the bride’s perspective so you can feel, sense and taste what she did. You get to experience what it is like to be loved by the greatest type of Christ alive at the time. What would it be like for her?
What would it be like to be loved by a king with unmeasurable wisdom? How delightful would it be? It was “more deligthful than wine!” Song 1:2
Her love was “more delightful than wine” as well Song 4:10
Compare the delight you get from wine and the delight an enemy slave girl got from her king and it was more delightful!
The feeling you get from wine is delight according to the text. Take that exact feeling but more of it!! Sweeter and tastier, better than wine!!
This is best done if you know the taste of good wine. If not then you need to do the mediation with something that gives you pleasure when tasting.
Or use the idea of delight by the pleasantness or amiable nature of the best smelling fragrance.
My point in all this is that Solomon’s Song of Songs is written from the brides perspective so that we can know what it felt like to be loved by her husband, the greatest type of Christ alive!
If having a close intimate relationship with a type of Christ was more delightful than wine then how much more sweeter and delightful is it to experience a love relationship with God in Christ!!
But this feeling is subjective!
Yes it is very subjective. Our feelings are here there and every where. Yet we know a holy emotion is pleasing to God when based on an object truth that doesn’t change.
Get the feeling and check is it based on an objective reality or truth in Scripture! When you feel that greater more delightful feeling, is it based on the objective truth as to who Jesus is and His relationship to and with you. Some things don’t change in our relationship with Jesus. He will never leave you. He is one with you. He loves you, yet we will doubt his love when we don’t sense it. Not sensing it doesn’t prove that He doesn’t love you but argues that He does for not sensing His love will cause you to desire Him more which increases your love to Him. A greater desire for Him alone is a good thing and when we don’t sense His love our desire for Him grows! God works all things together for your increase in love for true love is strong as death and unquenchable.
She is burning with desire for a closer more intimate relationship with the greatest type of Christ, how much more so ought we to burn for a closer more intimate relationship with the Anti-type, Jesus Christ our heavenly Bridegroom who loved us and gave Himself to us in love.
