A Stinky Bride!?

The bride in the Song went from being miserable, sunburnt, enemy slave outside a covenant relationship with God to being married to His son, the king of peace, Israel’s greatest Messiah, thus she becomes a child of God through her union with His son and she becomes co heir to His kingdom on earth due to her union with the king of kings.  Imagine this highly exalted slave showing up not smelling with incense and myrrh but stinking so bad she was despised rather than accepted on her wedding day.  She shows up beautiful and smelling great.  Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?”  Solomon’s Song of Songs 3:6

The Bride shows up smelling great.  The excellencies of her name were being poured forth like precious myrrh.  Her character was flawless 4:7. and she is on her way to be presented holy and blameless before her king on their wedding day.  Imagine if she hadn’t changed.

Her character was not always that way.  There was a time when her character took on rather a stench as she went deeper into the wilderness of sin, rather than coming out of it.

In 3:1 the bride gets spiritually lazy.  Her flame of love is more like a smoking flax night after night and she didn’t care enough to do something about it.  She is not holding him tight.  He has left her for the two were walking in disagreement.  He was in the light and she was blinded by the dark night of her soul when God hides his face.  When love isn’t flashing bright 8:6.

The bride searches for the one her heart loves and finds him after getting advice from the prophets and then she holds him tight where she feels safe, loved and at peace like being at your mother’s house.

Solomon goes on to compliment her inner glory by comparing it to her outer beauty, God’s glory, His renewed image upon her heart manifested in the natural beauty of her face, the holiness of her heart is reflected in the various principles and attributes of her natural beauty.  I was wondering what someone might say if the bride had not learned to hold him tight?   Rather than the compliment in 4:1-7 she might get a rebuke something like the opposite of beautiful..

Troy’s made up Bad version of Solomon’s Song of Songs 4:1-7

“How repulsive you are, my enemy!  Oh, how repulsive!

Your eyes behind your veil are like that of a shameless prostitute.

Your head is shaved, your glorious hair is gone.

Your teeth are like a seasoned crack addict getting worse every day.

You throat an open grave, you tongue practices deceit,

Your lips the poison of asps and your mouth full of bitterness and cursing, you mouth is altogether evil.

One temple is higher than the other and both are deformed.

Your stiff-necked and stubborn.

Poisoned milk is your drink and death comes to all who fellowship with you.

You are altogether undone, unholy, deformed, stinky and dark, there is nothing good in you.”

This is how she was only in her previous life in Song 1:6, changed for the better but got prideful and drifted back in 3:1.  Her flame of love just burns hotter and she learns to stay humble and close to his side by 3:4 for her love is unquenchable and unyielding 8:6.

Because she learned how to hold him tight her learning was in her heart.  Her heart got more beautiful.  The moral excellency of her heart got better due to more Love communicated to it.  Their oneness became practically closer.

After they were engaged the bride believed all kinds of lies from Satan that would cause separation rather than a closer intimacy.  She needed to clean up her thoughts and take every thought captive to the Word of God.  In so doing this is similar to her having clean teeth.  Clean thoughts and right emotions effect holy speech, a rightly inclined will (neck) and proof of your growing maturity (breasts).

Thus the one her heart loves loves her heart and adores her outward beauty that is a reflection of her inner beauty.  Her Messiah has just seen his bride learn how to hold him tighter by purifying her heart.  Her heart has love to God written on it.  She is made in God’s image and the glory of God which consists in God’s holiness, love and delight is in her.  The Holy Spirit of Love is in her heart.

Song of Solomon 4:1-7

Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.

Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them.

Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks.

Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.

Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.

Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.

In other words, after she learns to hold him tight she gets this adoration.

You are morally beautiful, my love, behold, you are holy, you love is pure, I can see it in your eyes and your glory comes from on high, you meditations are pure, matched with Truth producing fruits of love, your heart and the Spirit are one therefore you lips drop sweet truth and you will is bent on destroying the enemies of the union.  You have received great spiritual nourishment and you can nourish others.  I will enjoy all these precious and valuable qualities of your soul until the day breaks and the shadows flee.

If this is how much Solomon adored and delighted in the holiness of the heart of his bride how much more so would Christ adore His own image in you!!  It would more than ravish His heart to see His image upon your heart.  Think often of Jesus Christ, for He must be on you mind in order to be in your heart!!  Renew your mind by believing truth all day long.  Don’t believe the lies that Satan tells you.  If you hare struggling with any sin that keep you from sweet intimacy with God then there is some lie you are believing and you spiritual teeth are not clean and you will not see the fruit of your love to God when your mind is muddled with lies.
