Always be Ready for His Arrival!

Your Bridegroom wants you to be ready for Him when he calls.  Christ is calling you right now.   Knock, knock..  Do you sense you conviction of the Holy Spirit to pray, believe, repent, witness to others, ask someone to forgive you, learn more about Jesus.  Whatever conviction comes with the Word of God we must obey quickly and not delay.  Christ wants to come now and sup with you.  He is knocking.  If you love Him you will obey when convictions come, or you will forfeit sweet communion with Him.  Convictions are a good sign that Christ is calling you closer, follow those convictions and you will enjoy communion with God in Christ.

Always being ready to obey those convictions is the same as a bride desiring closer intimacy with her husband.  So when he speaks the will of God then you must listen because he is king.  Are you always ready to obey and show your love to your husband.  Prove it by when he speaks you listen because God wants you to listen.  (Even if he is unsaved you still listen and this obedience will bring you closer to God.)

Solomon wanted her to open the door which required a little self-denial but he left him locked out in the dark with dew like life giving blessing on his head.  There are things similar about Solomon’s love relationship with wife and our relationship with Jesus Christ.

The overall context of Song of Songs 5:1-6:2 takes our Bride from one of the greatest heights of holy Spiritual Communion with Christ in 5:1 to separation in 5:2 to finding Him again in 6:2 Her love to Him was delightful like a garden producing priceless spices.  Song 4:10-15 She earnestly desires Him to be very closer to her and for Him to enjoy her expression of love to him/Him.  “Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.” He then enjoys her love to the fullest and she enjoys His love to the fullest in 5:1.  Of all the mountain top spiritual highs that one could have on this earth.  Well here it is!!  Drink your fill!

After such a Spiritual High of 5:1 spiritual lethargy will inevitably follow.  5:1-2 are connected to form a greater context in order for this section to be both a warning for disobedience and encouragement for continued obedience after either short, long or intense spiritual highs.  You won’t like this feeling of spiritual decline but it will happen to anyone pursing a close intimate relationship with God, because you just can’t keep up a good pace forward without feeling separation to humble us and increase our desire for Him.

The temptation for pride is inevitable for those inexperienced in staying humble during greater revelations of Jesus Christ.  Most of us need thorns to keep us humble.  So you will get spiritual prideful and lazy and not poor in spirit in your walk with God sometimes especially after some length of continued obedience and enjoyed close sweet intimacy with God.  Song 4 to 5:1 marks unbroken communion that hits a monumental peak at 5:1!

Why is it a peak?  Because she learned to hang onto him very tight after thinking he was gone in chapter 3 and soon after solomon marries her and because she proved her love to Him he praises her in 4:1-7, on the spiritual honeymoon she is on top of the mountains viewing her inheritance in Solomon and in Christ now in the coming Jesus Christ.  She humbly comes down from there to serve the King, he praises her more for her obedience and they enjoy one the sweetest communion with each other.

Do you think this higher sweet flame of love that you are enjoying will burn with the greatest intensity you have ever had forever growing without failure?  This will surely happen in heaven!!  But for now we sin and when we sin Jesus will come knocking while you are spiritually sleeping not willing to deny yourself.  You will get a conviction that you really shouldn’t be doing something and there are some things you need to start doing!

Song of Solomon 5:2

“I was asleep but my heart was awake.
A voice! My beloved was knocking:
‘Open to me, my sister, my darling,
My dove, my perfect one!
For my head is drenched with dew,
My locks with the damp of the night.’

Okay so just a few verses ago she is wanting him to be close to her and he/He wants to be closer to her more then she to him/Him 4:15-5:1.  They both get what they wanted and there is always room for more.

She is sleeping but her conscience is awake similar to God coming to Solomon in a dream, though Solomon was physically sleeping his heart was awake when God came to him in a dream and told him to ask for whatever he wanted.  He wanted wisdom and God gave him unmeasurable wisdom and riches and honor above all other kings.   The greatest spiritual blessing and physical blessing came in the night when Solomon was dreaming.

There is virtue in love and humility wherever it is, wether in a dream in the night or while sleeping but your heart is awake.   “asleep”  here is a double metaphor.  Its the only way to make any sense of it.  Because who conscientiously makes answer to God’s while physically sleeping?  In special times like this God would audibly come to His children and converse with them, today God speaks to us through His word and convictions of the Holy Spirit, thus Christ comes knocking “Open to me..”  We need to listen to Christ when a conviction comes or you will lose fellowship with Him.

If He loves you then his/His lips will drop myrrh and you will love to obey Him rather than turn you head away from His advances.  Convictions of sin are one of Christ’s way of advancing on you.  You need to be pushed away from sin and drawn toward Jesus Christ!  Through greater convictions of the evil of sin God increases you hatred of it and love to Him, therefore drawing you closer to Him.  If you listen to these convictions when He commands us to “follow” and “find rest” Song 1:9 and to let him “see our beautiful face and hear our sweet voice”  Song 2:14  and “Come down..” from Spiritual highs and steal His heart Song 4:8-9 etc.

(Obviously when the husband wants to be closer, his will to be closer and desire to enjoy her love her more intimately is also God’s will.  Would God want them to enjoy each other’s love?  Song 1:2-3 She wants His love because it is better than any other experience!!  and He enjoys her love the most as well in 4:10 her love is beautiful and delightful.  Therefore this will of the husband is also the will of God because it is a biblically holy and right desire to be closer to the one you love.  She must always be willing to accept his advances because it is God’s will.  Therefore I also make Him capitalized and write him/Him because both are true.  It is God’s will and Solomon’s therefore the capital H and the small “h”  in him/Him.)

Being a bride ready for Christ entails quick obedience to convictions no matter when they come.  Also being the Bride of Christ in loyal waiting is not only yearning for His presence here on earth but yearning for the closest intimacy ever in Heaven when we see and behold Him as He is with the purest of hearts as a born again virgin ready for her King.

Isaiah 43:4, “Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable.”

You get a wonderful taste of heaven when you open the door by obeying your convictions wherever and whenever they come knocking!
