Lesson 1 Ask God for Bigger and Bigger Kisses!

(Hopefully my thoughts aren’t all that jumbled, I just wanted to get on paper what I was thinking, so this post is my meditation for the last two hours)

The adulteress got a Big Kiss!  A Big Kiss is the same as a great show of affection.  The affection Christ showed was His Love of forgiveness.   And she loved Him. Proven by her kissing His feet!  Thus offering him the mixed wine of her heart, both sorrow for sin and love to God, offering both tears of sorrow for offending so High and Majestic a God and having seen her offense worse because I she see’s Him greater.  The greater I see my offense to Him the lower I see myself and the greater He becomes and more lovely Christ gets.  Seeing our sin in relation to Christ on the cross we see the Love and Grace of God greater.  The height, depth, breadth and length is shed abroad in my heart that will surpass my understanding and give me a joy inexpressible an full of Glory!!

Luke 7:45 You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet.46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume.47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

What is her kiss?   She kissed His feet!    Psalm 2:12 “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.”

Song of Solomon  1:2 “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his lips for our Love is more delightful than wine”  She is in slavery Song 1:6  She sinfuly neglected her vineyard and now she is beside the flocks of His friends and feeling stared at or looked down upon she says “Do not stare at me because I am dark, darkened by the sun.”  Then she goes on to root cause of her feeling that way was because of 3 things.

  1.  Her sinful neglect of her own vineyard.  “Mine own vineyard I did not keep”  or “mine own vineyard I have neglected”  I am sinful, I have not guarded my heart from idols.
  2. She was made keeper of another owners vineyard.  Working for Him and not her own.  Yoked to a different husband, one not her own.  She was a spiritual prostitute and was confessing it…”Why should I be treated like a prostitute, a prostitute is an adulterous wife, He is asking Him to marry her and adulterer at heart.  An immoral prostitute.  Dark am I.. like the tents of Kedar.  Marry me an immoral bride not because of who I am apart from you but because of Your Love to God and me you died for us sinners.  She was in slavery to sin like a prostitute, once a prostitute always a prostitute in debt and can only be bought back.  She is in either sin in slavery or backsliding or just greater conviction.  This meditation can be used for all connections because the Gospel has power both to wake up the sinner and sanctify the Saint.  Part of the Gospel is that when we do not have a Gospel centered sanctification process then we will go back to Egypt. in bondage to sin and fear of punishment again.  This is her in the vineyard being made to take care of it by an angry brother in Law.  The brother through the Law is Satan.  She was on his side.

So she neglected to guard her heart and was enslaved by her sin and I want deliverance please, “Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth”  What a great act of love this would be, For a Great King of peace to give His life to make friends with His enemies. Christ accepted the bride!  Christ accepted the bride!    think about it God the Father gave them to His Son,  The Son accepted us!!!   The Son accepted us Because the Father gave us to Him.  After being united to them in Love.  He loved the Father and demonstrated His love to his enemy immoral prostituted bride by redeeming her with His Life.

This is someone who is

  1.  A sinner neglecting to do what God wanted her to do
  2. She is working in another vineyard for another, the enemy of God
  3. In this context of this working in another vineyard and neglecting to do what God would have me do I feel the Judgement of God, I feel guilty and I believe He should punish me for my sin.  I deserve His Wrath.  I am sensible of it. that i deserve His Wrath. But do I fear His Wrath?  Do I fear His Wrath when conviction for my sin comes?  If so, look to Christ.  look to self and look to Christ.  Truth about self, Dark am I.  I have sinfully neglected my vineyard. “Dark am I”   I have worked in and for the enemy, this is my shame.  Dark am I… like the tents of Kedar.  Like a dwelling place of evil people.  My tent is dark.  My heart is dark with sin and my sin has separated You from me.
  4. She was ignorant of how to get close to the king to whom peace belongs.  How do I get a kiss from him.  He is the one that illustrates the Messiah’s love to me.  God’s love to enslaved enemy Israel through a mediator.  And He would be the Lord our righteousness.  God’s son because of David saying  My Lord, and Son.

The greatest sinner gets the Biggest and Best Kisses.

Either you are a great sinner for real or a sinner but saved young but you know you have been forgiven much will love much.  Both can grow by using the Law to lead them to Christ.  The Law is useful for both the sinner and the saint.

The Kisses we realized Christ has done for us after we see our sin greater.  These are bigger and bigger kisses!  Through the love shown Christ is known in who He is and loved for who He is and thanked for what He has done.

  1. Christ will pay the ransom price for His sinful bride that the Father gave the Son and the Son accepted the terms to Love His sinful wife by dying for Her sins and sanctifying her through all the stages of Growth from one level of glory to another by beholding His Beauty at the Cross.  Christ transforms her.  2 Cor. 3:18   The point is that she is feeling outside His Friends , she feels not treated like a friend but an enemy separated because of sin.  She cries out, “Do not stare at me..”   I fear Your wrath,  the person fears the wrath of God, having no power over sin they work harder to appease God, If only I could do more good then God will do what I want.  I fear your wrath, I fear I may not have been good enough either conviction is good because they are true.   Apart from Christ we fear the Wrath of God, and I have not been good enough to earn His favor but Christ earned it for me.  so Do not stare at me because Christ has purchased Love and Grace for me.

Song 1:2  “Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth….”   Bigger and Bigger Majestic Kisses are desired from the One her heart loves, so she cries out “Let Him kiss me..”  She wants to be shown Love and Grace, faithfully and forever.

Some may think that you become a Christian and that somehow you just do some things and you grow.  This is true to some extent but most lose their hunger to grow, I believe this is because they stopped asking God for bigger Kisses.

But here some may object and say, how is this consistent with what all allow, that spiritual enjoyments are of a soul-satisfying nature?

I answer, Its being so, will appear to be not at all inconsistent with what has been said, if it be considered in what manner spiritual enjoyments are said to be of a soul-satisfying nature. Certainly they are not so in that sense, that they are of so cloying a nature, that he who has anything of them, though but in a very imperfect degree, desires no more. But spiritual enjoyments are of a soul-satisfying nature in the following respects, (1) They in their kind and nature, are fully adapted to the nature, capacity and need of the soul of man. So that those who find them, desire no other kind of enjoyments; they sit down fully contented with that kind of happiness which they have, desiring no change, nor inclining to wander about any more, saying who will show us any good? The soul is never cloyed, never weary; but perpetually giving up itself, with all its powers, to this happiness. But not that those who have something of this happiness, desire no more of the same. (2) They are satisfying also in this respect, that they answer the expectation of the appetite. When the appetite is high to anything, the expectation is consequently so. Appetite to a particular object, implies expectation in its nature. This expectation is not satisfied by worldly enjoyments, the man expected to have a great accession of happiness, but he is disappointed. But it is not so with spiritual enjoyments; they fully answer and satisfy the expectation. (3) The gratification and pleasure of spiritual enjoyments is permanent. ‘Tis not so with worldly enjoyments. They in a sense satisfy particular appetites; but the appetite in being satisfied, is glutted, and then the pleasure is over: and as soon as that is over, the general appetite of human nature after happiness returns; but is empty, and without anything to satisfy it. So that the glutting of a particular appetite, does but take away from, and leave empty, the general thirst of nature. (4) Spiritual good is satisfying, as there is enough in it, to satisfy the soul, as to degree, if obstacles were but removed, and the enjoying faculty duly applied. There is room enough here for the soul to extend itself; here is an infinite ocean of it. If men ben’t satisfied here, in degree of happiness, the cause is with themselves; ’tis because they don’t open their mouths wide enough.

But these things don’t argue that a soul has no appetite excited after more of the same, that has tasted a little; or that his appetite will not increase, the more he tastes, till he comes to fullness of enjoyment: as bodies that are attracted to the globe of the earth, tend to it more strongly, the nearer they come to the attracting body, and are not at rest out of the center. Spiritual good is of a satisfying nature; and for that very reason, the soul that tastes, and knows its nature, will thirst after it, and a fullness of it, that it may be satisfied. And the more he experiences, and the more he knows this excellent, unparalleled, exquisite, and satisfying sweetness, the more earnestly will he hunger and thirst for more, till he comes to perfection. And therefore this is the nature of spiritual affections, that the greater they be, the greater the appetite and longing is, after grace and holiness.  Jonathan Edwards
